Rats Are Not So Bad

Rats have had a bad reputation for a long time. They can destroy crops. They carry disease and some of the bigger ones can be downright scary. But some people find them cute and interesting and they keep them as pets. They are easy to take care of and just as affectionate as a cat or dog without the need for walking three to four times a day or changing the litter daily.

Now you might think that is crazy, that rats give you the heebie‐jeebies. But not all rats are the diseased vermin that eat our food and live in the sewers. The pet rats that people keep today are as far removed from those wild rats as a Dachshund is from its ancestor the wolf. The rats that are kept as pets today are called Fancy Rats. They're not just for junkyards or sewers anymore.
